Introduction of the graduate program of Management
The primary goal of the Department of Management is let the students study various phenomena and laws in the management of human society. In addition, this major studies on cognitive, social, logical, and developmental perspectives. Not only that, the graduate program focuses on enhancing the value of the previous study and broadens students’ career prospects. There are many useful courses I will learn in the future such as management of IT, financial management, marketing and firm performance, and business strategy.
My smart goals
Management is not a pure knowledge because it can be a practical tool that used in every field. In addition, I decided to study this major as an academic goal is because the school of business at George Mason University will give the student a chance to fly aboard and meet with other powerful business companies. The students will have around one week to experience the communication with foreign businessmen and some high-level managers or supervisors. Also, this department showed that there were 82% students completed internships in 2016, and most of them already have some achievements these years. As a result, those reasons let me felt interested in being one of this department. I very excited and look forward to entering the official program and start learning new knowledge at Mason.
Speaking of three smart academic goals I want to achieve during studying in the graduate school are getting a high GPA in my discipline, write professional research, and the last one is finding an internship in a dominant company.
First, getting a high GPA when I graduate from GMU is my first goal. I sometimes understand grades are not really important but for me, grades can show how much effort a person pay for. Otherwise, many jobs require candidates’ educational background need to be outstanding. The GPA is one of the emphatic points of the companies. I will pay my whole effort on this goal and manage my study time very well. Everything is depended on how I will pay for myself. Therefore, this goal is very important for me because I cannot let myself feel disappointed in the future. I will do my best and reach this goal before my graduation.
Secondly, writing professional research is my second smart goal. Although finish professional research means that I need to pay more extra time on it, I still want to write one before I graduate from Mason. In my first pathway semester, I studied Dr, Lee, who is one of the Professors in the Department of Management and his co-authored research which included the grammar analysis of the content. His achievement made me want to be like him. Therefore, I searched online and I found that his research was published in Strategy Management Journal and Journal of Management, etc. I know that I can achieve my second goal by reference from those resources. As a result, being a professional scholar or businessman must have some compelling achievements to be one of the qualifications. I will try my best to finish this goal before I graduated.
Finally, I will find an internship in a business company when I get an admission from the school of business. The Internship is an essential thing for me especially I decide to live in the U.S continually. As everyone knows, find an environment to practice skills as well as accumulate the experience before leaving campus is very important and necessary. I already found some links which show many job or internship opportunities for the students and candidates. I will not give up the chances to improve myself. As a result, I will reach my final goal between I enter the graduate program and graduation.
Through studying two pathway semesters, I know that being a graduate school student is not easy especially in the American education system. Although I have encountered difficulties here, every professor in the pathway semester all helped me enthusiastically and willing to gave me a lot of energy. I experienced how important the teamwork is, and I took all the class with a higher-level English. I also have many chances to attend on-campus activities related to my field. Now, I have accumulated more academic knowledge than before because of the experiences and the guidance from my professors. I will continue following my step, keep going and keep fighting with my future challenges. I believe I can overcome it and keep my learning attitude to be a successful student at George Mason University.
